"It's the one about duty." "They're all about duty."

At UNC. Having complications with mythology. It's funny, what Japaneese cartoonists think of the western world. And their fascination with all things talmudic. We were watching a thing called Angel Sanctuary last night. IT was disturbing. I don't like incest.

The boy's name was Setsuna, which made me think of Sailor Saturn. But it was cool watching him grow the three wings cause he was re-incarnated from 'Organic Angel Alexiel' who had rebelled against god and was being persued by her twin brother. Now Setsuna's in love with his little sister, and is going to hades to resuce her soul, a la Orpheus.

Right.

Other than that, yesterday was wanga day of Gilbert and Sullivan. HMS Pinafore in the afternoon, then we rented Penzance and 'Topsy Turvey', which is about the lads and Mikado, and has Jim Broadbent in it as Gilbert.

I am in love with Jim Broadbent, by the by. He played Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge. Sweet. I was delighted by Kevin Klien as the Pirate King, and Chauv... um, Rex Smith as Frederic.

My ex-boss is a Maestro, and conducted Pinafore yesterday. He says he'll give me a copy of his G&S based symphony. Heen.

The title is a West Wing quote about a Gilbert and Sullivan quote. They were trying to decide whether it was from Penzance or Pinafore (I defy you, Italics!).

It occured to me that all that needed doing to turn the recent Moulin rouge into a Gilbert and Sullivan Musical was to make the penniless writer/sitar player a maharaja in disguise and not kill Satine.

"If you want to write grand opera about prostitutes daying of consumption in paris alleyways, go talk to Ibsen." --Gilbert, more or less. To Sullivan. In 'Topsy Turvey'.

I'm going now.
